A Day at the Beach

The next few weeks Tony and I spent a lot of time together. Dinner dates, lunch dates, movie dates, time just spent together at his place or mine. We grew closer and as the days went by I learned about his life: likes and dislikes, routines, goals and dreams. I shared all of this with him too. He was strong, protective, and decisive but at the same time he was sensitive and caring. The doubts and insecurities I had started slowly fading away. When he was around I had no doubts, it was a touch or a look that showed that he wanted to be with me. I found myself trusting and loving him more and more every day. Maybe I wasn't meant to be alone after all and if things kept going as well as they were I could see myself planning a different future, one with Tony.

We had been dating for almost a month, and on a sunny Saturday morning we decided to head to a beach just outside L.A. We had packed a picnic lunch and planned on staying until it got dark. It had been a busy week for Tony with the trial and we were both looking forward to spending the whole day together.

Tony was wearing gray cargo shorts, a blue Athletic Wear tee with sneakers and his Angels ball cap. I was wearing jean capris, a light-blue tank top and flip flops.

Once we got to the beach, Tony parked near the shops that led to the pier, we decided to first browse the shops and then walk along the pier before having lunch on the beach.

Tony and I headed to the first shop, browsing and window shopping as we made our way down the street. He bought me a handmade bracelet in a jewelry shop where a lady dressed in 70's tie dyed clothes was making bracelets behind the counter. The bracelet had blue and white beads with a small dolphin charm in the center.

In another shop Tony found a few Angels trading baseball cards amongst odds and ends in an antique collector's shop.

"Caty, look at these." He said excitedly.

"What is it babe?" I went over to him and looked at the cards in his hands.

"They're rare Angel's cards from '76; I never thought I'd find them."

I nodded knowing he was an avid Angel's fan. "So, let's buy them."

"Sweetheart, they're probably really expensive." I loved when he called me sweetheart. He had said it on our third date as we kissed goodnight, and since then it brought a smile to my lips every time he said it.

I shrugged. "So? You work hard and hardly ever spend money on yourself."

"You sure?" He scratched the side of his face.

I gently pulled him towards me and kissed him. "Yes, and if you don't buy them, I will."
