I woke to the sound of heavy rain falling outside and looked out the window to see that it was dark and cold, which contrasted with the warmth of the bed and the light from the living room.
Tony walked into the room and sat beside me. "Merry Christmas, sweetheart."
I sat up, giving him a hug and then kissing him softly, I said: "Merry Christmas."
I had always loved the holidays and giving gifts but it was even more special sharing it this time around with Tony. It's our first Christmas together. In the past week, we had picked out a tree, decorated it and bought gifts for friends and family. We had promised each other not to snoop, pry or try to figure out what we had gotten each other so I was excited to see his reaction when he opened his gifts. I was also dying to know what he had gotten me; he was so sweet and romantic with his gifts, that I knew I would love whatever he had bought.
"I cooked us breakfast, we can open the gifts then eat."
"Sounds good." I ran my fingers through my hair, smoothing it down.
"How's your leg? Need an Advil?" He asked, resting his hand on the cast. The past few days I had woken up with sharp pains in my leg as it continued to heal.
"Actually, it's feeling pretty good today," I glanced down at his hand and smiled.
"I'm glad, sweetie," he said, giving me a quick kiss.
He helped me into my chair and then we made our way to the living room. Jake was lying by the tree, happily chewing on a giant bone with a blue bow around it. I laughed.
"Guess he found his gift," Tony said with a laugh as he bent down, removed the bow and gave the bone back to Jake.
I rubbed Jake's head and he licked my hand before returning to his bone. "And from the looks of it, he really likes it."
Tony sat down on his knees beside the tree. Reaching under he pulled out the gifts, setting his two gifts beside him and then handing me my two. We had agreed to get two special gifts, and not go too extravagant since we had a lot of money going into the wedding and were planning that trip up to the mountains as soon as my leg healed.
"Which one should I open first?" I asked.
