Sick Day

A few days later, early Wednesday morning, I woke up to Tony shivering. I snuggled closer and pulled the blanket up thinking he was cold. He began coughing, and I quickly sat up, immediately worried.

"Babe, are you okay?" I ran my fingers through his hair, and noticed his forehead was sweaty. He's burning up. He opened his eyes slowly. "Babe, you're burning up, are you feeling okay?"

"I didn't feel too great a few days ago either, but I thought it passed," he said softly. He sat up as he fought another fit of coughing.

I sighed as I rubbed his back. He didn't look good, and he was pale. "You can't go to work like this, I'll call in sick too so I can stay with you."

He shook his head and coughed. "No, sweetheart. I have to go today. I'll be okay."

I shook my head, placing my hand on his arm. "No arguing, you need rest and maybe medicine. I don't want you to get sicker," I said simply. He's a hard worker like me and I know he hates missing work, but I think I can convince him to stay home and rest. "Besides, if you go to work this sick, you'll only end up missing more days trying to get better afterwards." I stroked his cheek. "Please, for me? I'm worried," I pleaded.

He slowly laid back down. "All right, I'm getting dizzy and nauseous just sitting up."

I leaned over him and caressed his cheek. "Aw, I'm going to take care of you. I'll get some cough syrup and something light for your stomach. Just lay still, 'k?"

He nodded. "Thanks, Caty." I smiled softly as I got up and slid into my chair. I went into the bathroom, and grabbed a washcloth. Turning on the sink faucet to cold and running the cloth under it, I then rung it out. I went back and put it on Tony's forehead hoping to break his fever. Tucking the covers around him I kissed his cheek. I then went to check the medicine cabinet for cough syrup. I found the Robitussen and then poked my head in to check on him before making breakfast.

"I'm going to make some toast."

"That sounds good." He opened his eyes slowly then gave me his half smile.
